Questions?
Here are some common questions that I have received from lesson inquiries:
Can I have a sample lesson?
Absolutely! I understand the importance of having a comfortable teacher-student relationship. It is equally important for me to know whether our working relationship can go forward – think of it as an interview! Feel free to contact me for an available time slot and cost.
How often should the student practice?
Ideally? Daily. The amount of time spent depends on students' age and their level. Many of my students are swamped with homework and/or various activities. However…
I equate learning music to learning a brand new language. The more you are exposed to ABCs and words, the more time you spend speaking and reading, the more fluent you are in the language. It is the same with music. I tell my young students that they have special powers – not everybody can read these special signs and symbols! ♩♪♫♬♭♮♯
My child does not like to practice. What can I do to help?
Encourage them! Sit with them and enjoy their musical journey together! Your child’s learning takes three (or four) people – him/her, the teacher, and the parents! Parental involvement is crucial in a student’s music education. Setting a practice schedule would also help get them into the routine. I would not be where I am now without my parents’ support all these years!
How much do you charge? But there are other cheaper options.
Check out the Policies and Rates page for all the details!
Are there any performing opportunities as your student?
Yes! My students have played for one another and their families in our studio classes and recitals.
Also, as a member various teacher organizations, I am able to send students to various recitals and musical events. I have also successfully prepared voice students for auditions in local playhouses.
What other musical activities are available?
Should there be an interest in graded assessments, there are two exams offered that I am familiar with – ABRSM and MDP (RCM). Having been through the ABRSM system since a young age, I am able to successfully prepare a student for each level.
